Tour Itinerary
Day 1: City Tour and Transfer to the Virungas
You begin your adventure in Kigali, Rwanda’s vibrant capital. If you arrive at the airport, your guide meets you and transfers you into the city. For those already in Kigali, you start the day with a moving city tour. You visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you take time to reflect on the nation’s past and learn about its incredible journey of resilience and reconciliation.
After this poignant and insightful stop, you board your vehicle and head north toward Volcanoes National Park (VNP), a scenic journey that winds through Rwanda’s famous “land of a thousand hills.” The two-to-three-hour drive immerses you in the lush, green countryside. Upon arrival near the park, you check into your lodge, have dinner, and prepare your gear, knowing the unforgettable gorilla trek awaits you in the morning.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Return to Kigali
Rrise before dawn and eat an early breakfast to ensure timely arrival at the Kinigi park headquarters. Then we report for the 7:00 am briefing, where park officials assign you to a specific gorilla family and explain the necessary trekking etiquette. You then join your UWA guides and trackers and ascend into the bamboo and montane forest on the slopes of the Virunga volcanoes.
You hike through the dense vegetation, and when the trackers locate the mountain gorillas, you approach the family carefully. For one magical hour, you observe these magnificent creatures – watching the powerful silverbacks, the protective mothers, and the curious young ones. This intimate encounter creates memories that will last a lifetime. You trek back out of the forest, return to your lodge for lunch, and then begin the return journey to Kigali. Your guide drives you back to the capital, either to your hotel or the international airport, where you conclude your remarkable 2-day Rwandan safari.
